11 Mile Campground has been a fan favorite of mine for years. This breathtaking river canyon is only about an hour outside of Colorado Springs, CO making it the perfect weekend getaway for locals. The 11 mile Canyon offers something for all nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you want to fly fish, hike, rock climb, river raft, swim, or camp this is the place for you! Here are the Top 3 Reasons to Visit 11 Mile Canyon.

1. River Activities
11 Mile Canyon has a beautiful rushing river that flows through it, offering the most picturesque views. In the late summer you will find White Water Rafting trips in the upper section of the river that offers thrilling rides. This river also is perfect for a chill tubing day in the lower and flatter sections. For years every summer I go up with friends and family to spend the day floating down the river. This is a great activity for anyone who wants a relaxing river float, but please do your due diligence of observing the rapids in your desired floating area. Tube with caution and at your own risk! The road up the canyon has plenty of pull offs that you can park your car and walk down to the river bank. There are plenty of areas with big grass beaches you can set up to hang out for the day. In some river sections there are deeper pockets that you can fully submerge in and swim around. The River is lined with tall boulders and rock formations making perfect places to sunbathe and soak up the sun! The water is chilly since it's snowmelt from the Rockies, but on a hot day it is the perfect balance!

2. Camping
The fun doesn't have to stop at the river! 11 Mile Canyon has a ton of designated campgrounds for tents and RVs. At the campground your space offers a grill and firepit, car spot, and a nice flat area for your tent! Almost all the campgrounds are super spaced out so you will truly feel like you're camping in the woods and not a parking lot! With plenty of rooms from your neighbors you can have a peaceful and quiet camping experience! If you're lucky enough and beat the crowds you can find a spot that is just steps from the river!
3. Fishing
11 Mile Canyon is home to some of the best fly fishing in Colorado. Whether you're a pro or a new bee there is a spot for everyone to enjoy a day of casting. The South Platte River is known to have 3,000 fish per mile and is a dream location to catch trout. Before you go make sure that you are up to date on fishing requirements and restrictions.
